This past weekend, I had the incredible honor of attending the 54th Annual 2025 Legislative Conference for Caucus Weekend at the New York State Capitol as a guest of Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages and New York State Senator Siela A. Bynoe.

Being able to experience just a snippet of their daily lives was eye-opening. From attending workshops to learning about hundreds of laws being pushed by the Caucus, every moment was a deep dive into the work that keeps our communities moving forward. I also had the chance to tour the Senate and Legislative buildings, meet some truly influential figures like Nick Perry, the first Jamaican-born U.S. Ambassador, and Jumaane Williams, New York City Public Advocate.

As we celebrate Black History Month, this experience felt especially meaningful. Seeing the dedication and resilience of Black leaders working tirelessly behind the scenes filled me with an immense sense of pride and inspiration. It reminded me that while I may have felt like a student on a school trip, in reality, I am a student to this—learning, growing, and soaking in every lesson.

I’m incredibly grateful for these small but powerful windows of opportunity. They are shaping my understanding of leadership, advocacy, and the power of representation. Here’s to more moments of learning and impact!
