There’s something powerful about showing up to vote surrounded by neighbors, music, and genuine community energy. That’s exactly what the Black Voters of Long Island “Party at the Polls” brought to our town this weekend. It wasn’t just an event. It felt like a reminder that our voices still matter, and when we show up together, we make democracy feel alive.

I also had the chance to reconnect with Joe Scianablo, who’s running for Town of Hempstead. I first met Joe earlier this year at a Western Nassau Democratic Club meeting, and seeing him again in this setting reinforced something I respect about him. He listens. He shows up. He talks with people face-to-face, not because it’s campaign season, but because he genuinely cares about how families here are doing. That kind of presence goes a long way in local leadership.

Events like this give me hope. They remind me that civic engagement isn’t just about casting a ballot. It’s about staying informed, supporting leaders who care about inclusion, and building communities where everyone feels seen. As we head into Election Day, I hope more people take a moment to vote, bring a friend, and feel the power of participating in shaping the future of our towns.

Our voice is our influence. Let’s use it.
